The Nutrition Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Julie Lovegrove, University of Reading, as the President-Elect of the Nutrition Society from 3 December 2018. Professor Lovegrove will formally take position of President of the Society from September 2019.
Professor Lovegrove is the Hugh Sinclair Professor of Human Nutrition, Director of the Hugh Sinclair Unit of Human Nutrition and the Deputy Director of the Institute for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research at the University of Reading.
Professor Lovegrove's main research interests include investigations of the nutritional influences of metabolic syndrome development and increased cardiovascular disease risk, including nutrient-gene interactions. Of interest is the impact of dietary fats, carbohydrates and phytochemicals on vascular reactivity, insulin resistance and lipid metabolism in different population groups.
Professor Lovegrove serves on external committees including the UK Government’s Scientific Advisory Committee for Nutrition (SACN), SACN’s sub-committee on saturated fats and health and she chairs an International Life Science Institute Europe (ILSI) committee on saturated fats and cardiovascular health.
Professor Lovegrove will be working alongside the Society’s current President, Professor Philip Calder, until she becomes President in September 2019.
