The Nutrition Society Silver Medal has been assigned annually since 1991 for scientific excellence in the field of nutrition, and is awarded to a member of the Society who is within 15 years of higher degree graduation. The 2019 awardee is Professor Mary Foong-Fong Chong, National University of Singapore.
Professor Chong has been awarded the Nutrition Society Silver Medal 2019 for her research entitled ‘Influences of the perinatal diet on maternal and child health in an obese world’.
Professor Chong presented her research at the 13th European Nutrition Conference: FENS2019, describing her work on Singapore's first birth cohort study, the mother-offspring multi-ethnic cohort study 'GUSTO' (Growing Up in Singapore Towards healthy Outcomes), which has contributed to the body of evidence on the developmental origins of health and diseases hypothesis over the past 10 years. In a country once devoid of data relating to maternal and infant diets in relation to health outcomes, Professor Chong's work has revealed dietary differences among ethnic groups as well as the challenges posed by current dietary patterns.
Many congratulations to Professor Chong.
