The Society is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Ruan Elliott as the new Cellular and Molecular Nutrition Theme Lead. Dr Elliott replaces Dr Bernard Corfe following his election to the Board of Trustees as Honorary Programme Officer.
Dr Elliott is a Senior Lecturer in Nutrition at The University of Surrey, with previous experience as a Senior Scientist at The Institute of Food Research Norwich, and Post-doctoral work as a Research Fellow at The University of British Columbia in Canada.
His research interests include the nutritional modulation of DNA damage and repair, the application of functional genomic techniques in nutrition, and defining optimal micronutrient intakes (notably, iron, copper, selenium and zinc) including modelling homeostatic mechanisms.
The Theme Leaders represent their respective developing areas of nutritional science, acting as the direct link between the membership and the Science Committee.
Dr Elliott said “I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with everyone in the Nutrition Society and with the wider research community to promote discussion about, and highlight progress in, cellular and molecular nutrition research. I would be delighted to hear from members of the Society who would like to be contribute to these efforts in any way.”
